PET URINE DAMAGE
The types of damage from pet stains can be diverse and depend on the makeup of the urine. Urine content varies due to the pet's diet, age, health, sex, reproductive cycles and if the pet is on any medications. Due to this, some urine stains are not removable.
Pet urine can result in devasting damage to your carpet. Urine damage over time can affect the dyes used in the carpet. Some urine spots may be noticed immediately while others may take weeks or months for a reaction.
When urine spots develop slowly, the dyes and carpet fibers may be permanently damaged. Pet urine left unattended can damage the carpet in many ways. Moisture can weaken the layers of the carpet which allows separation or delamination of the backing materials. Seams can also be damaged and separate.
Another very noticeable problem, especially with cats, is odor. Unless the cat urine can be completely removed, odor removal is unlikely. A number of products from stores are available to combat odor, however, they may simply mask the odor. During times of high humidity the odors may reappear.
If the odor cannot be removed, the damaged areas of the carpet may need to be replaced. Sometimes if carpet replacement is necessary, then replacement of the padding and even subflooring may also be necessary. Remember however, that this is all dependent on how severe the pet staining is.
